Here is why I wouldn't want to miss my language course in 2026.

Among the benefits my employer offers me, regular participation in our company language course is one of the most important. Where else would I get such regular personal support and inspiration?

Among the benefits my employer offers me, regular participation in our company language course is one of the most important. Where else would I have the opportunity to reflect on and evaluate the topics of the week with my colleagues in a cultivated environment and under such competent guidance? I usually leave class feeling more relaxed and confident.

Our language course gives me personal attention and care. My trainer is educated, empathetic, and shows a genuine interest in my development. Together, we look at our means of communication from different perspectives assuring that blockages and misunderstandings are avoided right at the root. My growing knowledge makes me feel empowered to communicate confidently in our international environment at any time. I find that is a great benefit.

We often use textbooks at the various language levels that take a closer look at the work and vocabulary of our different departments. There are people working in all kinds of positions, and I find it helpful to understand the struggles my colleagues face on a daily basis. This has given me a better understanding of their situation when working together and has enabled me to prepare my emails for them more effectively.

Especially in times of technological change, the growing flood of information on social media, and the increasing burden and loneliness in our nation’s households, language teaching offers a welcome space for socialising and active support. Week after week, it also shows us that our individual knowledge has its limits and that our true strength lies in community. This is a perspective that is far too rarely taken today.

Humanistic education puts people at its center and adds the crucial human question of “Why?” to the technical question of “How?” Our technical capabilities should only be a means to an end. However, they cannot provide us with the social purpose itself. Defining this purpose and exploring it anew week after week and year after year in a changing world remains our common task.

Amidst all the jubilation about technological progress, and despite the austerity measures that are certainly necessary, we should not neglect our common human mission of providing for each other. I am therefore grateful that my employer recognises this necessity and, together with me, invests in my personal development.
